The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Ishyaku Mohammed, to coordinate security operations for Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, in a statement, clarified that DIG Mohammed will coordinate election security operations and work with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security.
The police said Assistant Inspectors-General and Commissioners of Police have also been deployed across the three senatorial districts to strengthen intelligence gathering and ensure prompt response to threats.
The Force said adequate security arrangements have been made to protect voters, INEC officials, election materials, polling units, observers and journalists.
IGP Disu warned political actors and their supporters against ballot snatching, voter intimidation and other electoral offences, stressing that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.
The police also reiterated the ban on armed escorts and unauthorised security personnel at polling units and collation centres, while urging Osun residents to vote peacefully.
