The Police Service Commission has delegated a high-powered monitoring team to Osun State for the Saturday, August 15 governorship election, to observe the conduct of police personnel deployed to police the exercise.

The Commission, in a statement by the Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, emphasized the delegation, led by DIG Taiwo Lakanu retd., Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Police Matters, will ensure that police officers adhere to the rules guiding election duties and maintain discipline and professionalism before, during and after the polls.

The PSC said the delegation is aimed at strengthening public confidence in the electoral process and ensuring that police conduct remains impartial, professional and civil.

The Commission urged all officers deployed to Osun to remain apolitical, respect citizens’ rights and protect the freedom of voters to participate peacefully in the election.

The Commission warned that any police officer found compromising the credibility of the election will face sanctions.
