Who we are
Galaxy Television Limited operates the Galaxy TV consumer website, live and on-demand viewing experiences, news submission tools, membership checkout, and related digital services in Nigeria.
For privacy questions, contact [email protected]. Station and company correspondence can also go through the Contact page.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly and information generated when you use the service.
- Account details — name, email, and sign-in identifiers from Google, Apple, or Facebook when you choose those providers.
- Contributor submissions — eyewitness or correspondent stories, media you upload, and optional payout details when rewards are enabled.
- Membership and payments — plan selection and checkout metadata; card details are handled by our payment processor (Paystack), not stored on Galaxy TV servers.
- Usage and device data — pages viewed, live/session activity, approximate location derived from IP, browser type, and similar technical signals.
- Cookies and similar tech — session, preference, and (with consent) analytics cookies such as Google Analytics 4.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Provide news, schedule, Galaxy+ viewing, accounts, and contributor tools.
- Moderate user-generated content and operate contributor reward programmes where enabled.
- Process membership purchases and send transactional messages (e.g. receipts, security alerts).
- Send the optional Daily Brief / morning digest when you subscribe or turn Morning brief on in Account settings. Guest signups are confirmed by email before we add you to the send list.
- Measure audience engagement, improve products, and keep the service secure.
- Comply with Nigerian law and respond to lawful requests.
Legal bases (NDPR)
Where the Nigeria Data Protection Act / NDPR applies, we process personal data on bases that include contract (to provide the service you request), consent (for optional analytics or marketing where required), legitimate interests (security, product improvement, fraud prevention), and legal obligation.
Retention
We keep account and contribution records for as long as your account is active and as needed for moderation, rewards, legal, and security purposes. Morning-brief addresses stay on the subscriber list until you unsubscribe (email link, Account → Settings, or [email protected]). Analytics events may be retained on shorter rolling windows. You may request deletion of account-linked data subject to legal holds and content already published.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of your personal data, and withdraw consent where processing is consent-based — including leaving the morning brief via the unsubscribe link in each digest. Contact [email protected]. You may also lodge a complaint with Nigeria’s data protection authority.
Children
Our consumer services are not directed at children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy where permitted by law.
