Makinde emphasizes separation of power

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has reiterated his belief in the independence of the three arms of government, saying his administration is not interested in a gagged or rubber-stamped legislature.

Speaking shortly after the inauguration of the chairman and members of the Oyo State House of Assembly Service Commission Makinde said his administration believed in the separation of power among the three arms of government; executive, legislature and judiciary, adding that robust debates by lawmakers are needed to make lawmaking effective and efficient.

Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that the Governor challenged the newly inaugurated chairman of the commission, to utilize the experience gathered while serving as the deputy speaker of the state assembly in the new assignment.

He also urged the appointees to work towards the wider interest of the state while discharging their duties.

Also, the Governor inaugurated 14 Federal Constituencies Liaison Officers, charging them to be good ambassadors.

He urged the officers to be agents of unity in their respective constituencies and ensure that they served well as feedback agents on demands and wishes of their people. Jacob Adetoro, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, promised that justice and equality would be their watchword in carrying out their new assignment.
