The House of Representatives Minority Caucus has accused President Bola Tinubu of contradicting his administration over the freezing of Osun State Government accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in the buildup to the August 15 governorship election.

The caucus, in a statement by Minority Leader, Fredrick Agbedi, and spokesman Afam Victor Ogene, described the President’s directive to the EFCC to vacate the court order as a belated response forced by public pressure.

The lawmakers argued that the directive exposed conflicting positions within the Federal Government after the EFCC claimed the account freeze was not backed by a valid court order.

The opposition lawmakers also accused the APC-led Federal Government of targeting the Osun State Government through the freezing of accounts, withholding of local government allocations, arrest of state officials, and what they described as partisan conduct by security agencies ahead of the election.

The caucus urged the Federal Government to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship poll, warning against the use of federal institutions to intimidate opposition states.

It also called on civil society groups and the international community to monitor the election and hold those responsible for any breakdown of law and order accountable.
