Reps Commence Conference on Promoting Transparency in Govt Operations

The House of Representatives Committee on Anti-Corruption on Tuesday commenced a three-day national conference in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, with a focus on promoting transparency in government operations. Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the Committee, Honourable Moshood Kayode Akiolu, emphasized that the fight against corruption requires the collective efforts of all stakeholders.

 He called for stronger institutional collaboration, legislative reforms, and effective oversight to combat systemic corruption within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and across other sectors of the economy. Also addressing participants, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Dr. Mainasara Umar Kogo, described transparency as the foundation of ethical governance, adding that it fosters accountability and empowers citizens to hold leaders responsible.

In his remarks, the Akwa Ibom State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Uko Udom, represented by Mrs. Utomobong Inyang, urged participants to uphold accountability in governance, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to promoting transparency in its operations.

Themed “Fostering Collaboration in Enhancing Transparency within MDAs,” the conference drew participants from MDAs, anti-corruption agencies, civil society organizations, and members of the National Assembly.
