Fct Police Command Arrests Suspected Car Thieves

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered three stolen vehicles and arrested eight suspects, including a couple, in a series of operations across Abuja and Akwa Ibom. According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrests followed multiple reports of stolen vehicles between April 19 and 28, 2025.

 

On April 19, operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad arrested one Yusuf Yunusa for allegedly stealing a gold Toyota Corolla (Reg. No. ABC 570 FJ) from the Federal Secretariat. Further investigation led to the arrest of his wife, Blessing Yusuf, on April 25 in Kwali. She confessed to purchasing Toyota master keys online, which her husband used to steal vehicles while she created distractions.

 

In a separate incident on April 28, police in Life Camp arrested five suspects after a buyer reported a suspicious black Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC E-400 (Reg. No. AAA 07 KA). The vehicle, stolen from Lekki, Lagos, was recovered, and the suspects, Idris Suleiman, Isiyaku Habibu, Ganiyu Sadiq, Idowu Akintunde, and Bello Muyideen confessed to stealing it from their employer.

 

Similarly, following a report by  Chinwenze Chinaza about his missing driver and an unregistered Toyota Hilux Adventure, police operatives from Mabushi Division tracked the driver, George Idung, to his hometown in Eket LGA, Akwa Ibom State. He was arrested while attempting to sell the vehicle, which has since been recovered.All eight suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. The Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, advised residents to install vehicle tracking systems, avoid parking in isolated areas, and thoroughly verify ownership before purchasing vehicles.
