Eagles’ll beat Lions for Ikeme — Rohr

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr says his team will win next month’s crucial 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cameroon for goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, who was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in July.

Ikeme had been the team’s first choice goalkeeper since the exit of Vincent Enyeama and was impressive in front of goal before the ailment knocked out the Wolverhampton Wanderers safe hands.

The German added that captain Mikel Obi, Chelsea star Victor Moses and Germany-based defender Leon Balogun were listed on his squad for next month’s crucial 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon after injury ruled them out of the national team’s recent games.

The NFF will announce the squad this week. Mikel has not played for Nigeria this year since he moved to China from Premier League champions Chelsea.

He will later undergo surgery for an abdominal problem in London, which sidelined him for four months before he returned to action for his Chinese club last week. Both Victor Moses and Balogun have also not featured for the Eagles this year on account of injuries. Moses underwent a toe surgery at the end of the Premier League season. Nigeria faces Cameroon in Uyo on September 1, before both teams clash again three days later in Yaounde.
