The Police carried out a crackdown on cult activities in Delta State, and arrested 7 suspected members of a cult group, identified as the Maphite confraternity.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Delta State command, Edafe Bright, in a statement, indicated that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command acted on credible intelligence, before raiding a criminal hideout at Issele-Uku, to effect the arrest of the suspects.

Preliminary investigation, according to the police, indicated that the suspects have all confessed of being members of the dreaded Maphite confraternity, terrorizing the community and the environs.

Items recovered from their Hideouts include one double barreled gun and 7 live cartridges, one Cutlass, 7 Android phones, as well as one Maphite beret.

In a related development, one suspect was arrested in the Delta community of Abraka during a foiled gathering of suspected criminals along Omoni road.

A search in the bag belonging to the suspect, identified as Wale Morakinyo, led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols and 4 live cartridges.

The suspect and the 7 cult group members are presently in custody of the police, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
