The police have arrested 2 impersonators of the Civilian Joint Task Force and the Delta Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps, identified as Omoefe Solomon and Gift Ededo. They disguise as members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and the Delta Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps to collect a motorcycle from a Hausa man. The police have handed them over to police at Ekpan, in Uvwie Local Government Area.

The incident occurred around the Jakpa Road area of Effurun when the suspects reportedly approached the rider, collecting his bike, and instructed him to come and retrieve it at the Effurun Police Area Division in Ekpan, claiming they were Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps members attached to the station.

The rider got to the station to find out that no record of the incident existed at the Police Division, which led the police to swing into action by launching manhunt for the suspects.

The suspects were arrested in another location in Warri by the Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps while carrying out unlawful duties and were discovered to be impersonators, who have been stealing motorcycles from unsuspecting owners.

When contacted, the Area commander Police Area Command, Effurun, ACP Aliyu Shaba, said the arrest is part of efforts to clamp down on impersonators who use the name of security outfits to extort and defraud members of the public.

He advised Deltans to always be at alert and verify the identity of security volunteers when dealing with them on any issue.
