Rivers Crisis: Tinubu's Peace Intervention A Slippery Slope

Though the governorship of Rivers State belong to the people, Peace which remains a panacea for development and growth in the last couple of weeks have eluded the state with governance kept in abeyance.

The intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday Monday towards ending the lingering political crisis between Governor Simi Fubara, and Nyesome Wike, the FCT minister, may come as cheery, but some respondents fears the truce may be short lived.

Rivers state is one of the richest state in the country with high reserve of petroleum deposit, in the last couple of weeks it has not known peace over leadership supremacy between Governor Simi Fubara and Nyesome Wike. But Yesterday's intervention is the second time the president Bola Tinubu is intervening in their crisis with the signed documents been described as "Villa Document" there are fears it may not be implementable as some respondents say the resolution was lopsided as it favors the Wike's group, others were of the opinion that the intervention.

While the respondents commended the president for the peace deal, they however observed that declaring a state - of - emergency in Rivers because of the heightened tension would have been possible, stating that the early intervention was expedient as whatever happens to Rivers would invariably affect the Nation.
