Lawyer sues EFCC, claims N1b damages

An Ilorin-based lawyer, Sulaiman Abaya is demanding for one billion Naira as damages from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly painting him in a bad light.

The EFCC had published his picture online in a fraud allegation, a situation which the lawyer described as an infringement on his fundamental human right.

At the hearing of the case today, Sulaimon Abaya was represented by 13 counsels in a show of solidarity.

The lawyers argue that it was wrong for the EFCC to publish the pictures of suspects with the inscription of their alleged offence without being found guilty by a competent court of law.

Justice Hamed Gegele adjourned the substantive hearing in the matter to the 27th of this month.
