More lawmakers have defected in the House of Representatives from one party to another.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, lost four members of the House of Representatives to the African Democratic Congress, ADC; while the All Progressives Congress, APC, gained two lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a wave of defections on the floor of the House.
The Speaker of the House, FRt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, read their letters of resignation at plenary.
The defectors include Sani Wakili, representing Minjibri/Ungogo federal constituency; Muktar Zakari, representing Tarauni federal constituency; Yusuf Datti, representing Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam federal constituency; and Abdulhakeem Ado, representing Wudil/Garko federal constituency of Kano State.
Also, Kabiru Ahmadu from Zamfara State and Chinedu Martins from Imo State defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The lawmakers attributed their defection to leadership crisis, internal divisions, and unresolved issues within their former parties.
APC now has 282 members, PDP 30, ADC 24, LP 10, APGA 5, Accord Party 4, APP 2 and SDP 2, leaving the seat of the deceased member from Kano State, Mohammed Hassan vacant.
