Court Sentences Boko Haram Terrorist, Yarima, to Death
A Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, presided by Justice James Omotosho, on Friday, sentenced a Boko Haram terrorist, identified as Alkali Yarima, known as La’ari, to death by hanging, on his role in terrorists attacks on Maiduguri, Borno State in 2015.
Justice Omotosho also sentenced the culprit to life imprisonment on count six for undergoing arms and weapons training in preparation for terrorism. Also, the Judge sentenced Yarima to 35 years imprisonment on count one; and 30 years on count five.
Yarima was also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, each, on counts two, three, and four of the charges from the seven-count charges by the Federal Government in the suit marked FHC/KNJ/CR/971/2026, dated May 26 and filed on May 29 by Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation.
On count one, 35 years on guilt conviction, the court convicted Yarima of Lawanti area in Mafa LGA, Borno State, for belonging to the proscribed Boko Haram group between 2009 and his arrest in 2015, an offence punishable under Section 16(1) of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013.
On count six, life imprisonment, the court found him guilty of travelling to an Arab country for arms and weapons training in preparation to commit acts of terrorism, an offence punishable under Section 21 of the same Act.
