Bamidele Dismisses Abuse of State Police
The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has dismissed concerns over abuse of state police by state governors. The senator assured that adequate constitutional and legal safeguards are being put in place to prevent misuse of the security outfit.
Bamidele, in Abuja, acknowledged that concerns had been raised over the possibility of governors using state police for political purposes. He maintained that similar concerns already exist under the current centralised policing system.
According to the Senate Leader, even under the existing structure of the Nigeria Police Force, governors could still influence policing within their states, depending on the circumstances.
