Absence Of Judge Stalls El-Rufai Trial
Proceedings in the trial of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at the Federal High Court, Kaduna, could not go ahead on Wednesday due to the absence of the presiding judge.
Justice Hauwa’u Buhari had adjourned ruling to July 1 on El-Rufai’s bail application. The court said it needed more time to consider submissions from both parties before deciding on the terms for the defendants’ release pending trial.
El-Rufai was arraigned, alongside his former Special Adviser, Jimi Lawal, and five corporate entities. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, filed an 11-count amended charge bordering on alleged financial fraud.
El-Rufai pleaded not guilty to Count 1. Lawal pleaded not guilty to Counts 6, 7, and 8. Singularity Network Security Limited was arraigned on Counts 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, and 11.
