Police Arrest Man, 42, For False Information On Kidnap Of Students In Edo

The police have debunked report of kidnap of students in Edo State. The Edo State Police Command identified and arrested one 42-year-old Ernest Ugbomoiko of Afuze, as the individual responsible for originating and circulating the false information. Ernest falsely raised alarm that bandits abducted school children in parts of Edo State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Edo State Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, in a statement, indicated the report was false and misleading, capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents; noting that no incident of such happened in the state.

The State Police Commissioner, CP Monday Agbonika, reassured members of the public that the deployment of security personnel to schools and other vulnerable locations across the state, was not in response to the false report.

He called on parents, guardians, school administrators and students to go about their lawful activities without fear, as adequate security measures remain in place to guarantee their safety.

The Edo police commissioner also warned individuals who deliberately spread false news to desist, saying the arrested culprit will face the full wrath of the law.
