Oyo workers join NLC nationwide protest

Workers and Civil society organisations in Oyo State have joined their counterparts to participate in the ongoing nationwide protests over economy hardship.

Galaxy Tv reports that the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, had earlier fixed today and tomorrow to protest the economic hardship Nigerians are currently passing through.

The protest commenced from the NLC Secretariat located at yidi Agodi Gate and moved to other parts of Ibadan, the state capital.
Some of the areas they matched through included Agodi- Gate, Total Garden and Mokola roundabout.

The workers, while speaking, urged the Federal Government to take immediate proactive measures to alleviate the hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

Meanwhile Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has called for calm stating that the difficult times being experienced by Nigerians will soon pass.
Governor Makinde stated this when he joined the protesters who had a stop over at the Total Garden Roundabout to address the people Ibadan.
He declared his support for the protesters calling for an end to hardship and hunger being experienced by the people, however, warned that the protests must be peaceful and constructive to achieve the desired result.

The governor also warned against generalization that states had been doing nothing to ease the hardship, stating that the Oyo State Government had been paying wage awards to workers and pensioners in the state since October 2023.
