House to Probe $36.1m Grant for Auditor General's Office

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts has resolved to investigate the $36.1 million and $1.5 million grant obtained to finance the operations of the office of the Auditor General of the Federation in the 2020 Appropriation Act.

Chairman of the Committee,  Wole Oke disclosed this at the investigative hearing into the petition on underfunding of the office of the  Auditor General of the Federation by the Budget Office of the Federation.

Oke added that the committee on Public Accounts is yet to receive the 2018 and 2019 financial audit reports, charging the Budget Office to furnish them with all relevant documents in relation with  the $36.1 million world Bank loans it received without appropriation in the 2019 budget

DG, Budget Office of the Federation, Benjamin Akabueze argued that the $36.1 million loan was part of the $125 million or N709 billion loan reflected in the fiscal framework, adding that all the Agencies that need the funds knew about it and accessed it.

He added that the details of the loans are usually captured in the budget where there is a need for payment of counterpart funding.

The committee however ordered the appearance of the Head of Service, minister of Finance among others concerned on Tuesday and Thursday to make further clarification.
