Alleged Treason: Sowore’s Co-Defendant Fined 150,000

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has awarded 150,000 costs against Olawale Bakare, the second defendant in the treasonable felony suit levelled against him and convener of #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore.

The court awarded the cost on account of his being absent at the resumed trial Thursday, an action the court deemed as affecting the pace of hearing the matter.

Galaxy’s Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that the lawyers that make up the defense team led by Femi Falana [SAN] had written to the Deputy Registrar of the Court seeking vacation of the case till after Easter,  that is by April, with no clear reason.

Ruling on this, Justice Ijeoma voiced her displeasure on the posture of the defense towards the lawsuit, stressing she will not condone any action that jeopardizes the pace of adjudicating on the matter.

On the application by the prosecution to revoke the bail of the Sowore, the first defendant, the court refused to grant it.

The matter has therefore been adjourned to 28 and 29 April for the continuation of hearing.

Speaking on the ruling, Omoyele Sowore, deemed the fine as rather harsh.
