A faction of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has continued the battle for recognition in the buildup to 2027 general elections. The faction stormed the INEC Headquarters, demanding recognition of Nafiu Bala as ADC National Chairman by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The faction, led by Nafiu Bala, engaged on a peaceful protest across major streets of Abuja, calling on the INEC to comply with a judgment of the Court of Appeal and avoid actions that could affect ongoing judicial proceedings.

Special Adviser on Strategy to the ADC Chairman, Abimiku Monday, said the March 12, 2026, ruling directed all parties to maintain status quo, pending determination of the substantive case.

The protesters appealed to Nigerians and civil society groups to support constitutional order and insist on obedience to court decisions.

INEC Assistant Director of Security, Mohammed Hamma, told the factional party members that INEC leadership is in Lagos for a workshop.

He assured that their documents would be forwarded to the INEC Chairman; he advised the protesters to follow up after the Easter break.
