Troops Foil Terrorist Attacks, Neutralize Notorious Commander
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA recorded major gains in Zamfara and Katsina States. In a series of coordinated operations, the Troops foiled planned terrorists attacks, neutralized a notorious commander, and recovered weapons and equipment. The operations also featured strong air-land coordination that disrupted a large movement of insurgents.
In Zamfara State, Sector 2 troops acted on credible intelligence of an impending attack on communities in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. Working with local security volunteers, they engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle and forced them to retreat with several casualties.
In another incident around Dogon Kade, the troops responded to an attack on farmers and neutralized Alhaji Tukur, identified as a notorious terrorist commander and younger brother of kingpin, Alhaji Shehu Bagiwaye. Others sustained gunshot wounds and fled.
Later that day in Sabon Gari, also in Kaura Namoda, troops mobilized quickly after reports of terrorist activity. On sighting the advancing forces, the attackers abandoned their mission and ran into nearby bushes. A follow-up sweep of the area led to the neutralization of one terrorist and the recovery of a motorcycle used in the escape.
In Katsina State, Sector 2 troops on a fighting patrol along the Danmusa–Yantumaki axis in Danmusa LGA, engaged another group of terrorists. The pressure forced the insurgents to abandon their position. During combing of the area, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines with 25 rounds of ammunition, and one motorcycle.
The air component also played a decisive role. Acting on intelligence, it intercepted about 300 terrorists on motorcycles, moving from the Sunke–Kumbo axis toward the Bayazaki riverine area in Gummi. Three air platforms engaged the group with precision airstrikes as they tried to hide under trees, effectively, thwarting the planned attack.
The Theatre Command commended the Nigerian Air Force and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations to protect lives, livelihoods, and restore lasting peace across the North West.
