Labour Unions Protest Plans to Remove Minimum Wage from Exclusive List

The Organised Labour in Oyo State on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest rejecting the proposed plan to remove the minimum wage from the exclusive list to the concurrent list.

The protest commenced from the secretariat of the Nlc in Agodi as members of the organised labour carried placards of various inscriptions rejecting the move by the National Assembly.

Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that the workers moved around major streets of Ibadan the state capital under the surveillance of security agencies.

The protesters later converged on the complex of the State House of Assembly where the Chairman of NLC, Comrade Kayode Martins and his counterpart from the Tuc, Comrade Emmanuel Ogundiran presented the protest letter to the Speaker of the Assembly represented by his Deputy, Hon

Responding to the demands of the protesters, the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, represented by his Deputy, Abiodun Fadeyi and the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Labour Matters, Comrade Bayo Titilola Sodo commanded the union members for being orderly stressing that it is an indication that labour activities have been reformed.

They assured them that the state government under Makinde is against the decision to remove the minimum wage from the exclusive list adding that such act is anti-people.

They assured the protesters of the government support on the issues promising that all Nigerians should rise against the bill.
