Stakeholders advocate blood donation to reduce maternal mortality

Stakeholders advocate blood donation to reduce maternal mortality

Stakeholders in the Lagos state ministry of health have advocated increased blood supply and donation to reduce maternal mortality in the state.

Rising from the annual stakeholders meeting organized by the Lagos state blood transfusion service, commissioner for health, professor Akin Abayomi says preventable deaths from maternal mortality is no longer acceptable in Lagos.

General Manager, Lagos state blood transfusion service, laments that hospitals are limited in their resources to build donor education programmes and as such needs government's commitment and support.

She also stresses the need to ensure donor care, recognition and encouragement.

Meanwhile, Professor Akin Abayomi says the state is winning the war against HIV/AIDS in Lagos, hoping In 2020, they will be declaring war on hepatitis.

The theme of the 2019 summit is: “Strategy for reducing maternal mortality: increasing blood supply”.
